Alscess Lewis-Brown has a BA in English, secondary education from the former College of the Virgin Islands, and a master’s degree in education with a concentration in Integrative Learning and Leadership from Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts. She has been an educator in Okinawa, Japan, Antigua, W.I., and St. Croix, Virgin Islands. She been a member of the Caribbean Writer’s editorial board and has also made contributions to that journal. Her essays have been published in the Daily News and the Kraal. Her first children’s book “Tamarind Bear’s Dream”, was published in 1985. As a life long educator, she has kept one foot in the classroom as a part-time instructor at the University of the Virgin Islands and the other foot in private industry and government service as a human resources professional. She was born in Antigua and was educated in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands from primary school to college.
 
Ms. Brown is the mother of two grown children, Sachiko and Anthony, whom she raised on the beautiful island of St. Croix, where she makes her home. She has three grandchildren, Aneesa, Emily and Kaden Anthony Brown.
